What Is A Tetrad Color Scheme

A tetrad color scheme is a double complementary color combination using the four colors that sit at the points of either a square or rectangle on the color wheel .  Specifically, a square tetrad color scheme uses colors that are the same distance apart from one another on the color wheel.

Colors For This Challenge And What Each SymbolizesFour Color Scheme

  1. Brick Red (Red):  Earthy, friendly, robust, strong, tasty and warm
  2. Bright Avocado Green (Green):  Earthy, botanical, natural, cool
  3. Golden Yellow (Yellow-Orange):  Radiant, cheerful, stimulating, energizing, invigorating, sunny, floral, fruity and warm
  4. Blue Purple (Blue-Violet):  Dignified, high tech, potent, electric and intelligent

Why The Colors Work Together

Yellow blended with orange is alive and dynamic, adding energy and vitality to any color scheme.  Few color combinations are as complementary as yellow-orange when combined with its complement, blue-violet.

The bright Avocado Green is not a pure hue .  Instead it has a dash of yellow in it which creates a sensation that is bright, energizing and invigorating.  When used in combination with the Brick Red, it creates a neutral color scheme.

Yellow is the color that ties the color scheme all together. Brick Red, Bright Avocado Green and Golden Yellow all have yellow in them.  Put together with the complimentary color of the Blue Purple and you have a harmonious color scheme.

This color combination is popular in sports such as rugby.

This color combination was created using the Color Harmony series of books by Rockport Publishers.  This particular color scheme came from the Color Harmony Jewels book.
